DOWNLOAD: Highest Q1 fundraising total since GFC

The $39bn raised for closed-end, private real estate funds in the first quarter of the year is the most raised in a first quarter since the global financial crisis. But mega-fundraising once again skewed the numbers.

Closed-end private real estate funds saw more capital raised in the first quarter of this year than any first quarter since the global financial crisis.

An aggregate of $39 billion was raised in the quarter, the highest amount for the sector’s vehicles since $38.4 billion was raised in Q1 2008.

But that number does not tell the full story. Once again, mega-fundraising, this time led by Toronto-based Brookfield Asset Management, skewed the numbers.
