DOWNLOAD: The highs and lows of 2018 RE fundraising

PERE’s review finds 2018 was the worst year for private real estate capital raising in the last seven.

The private real estate fundraising market hit a new low in 2018, in terms of total capital raised and number of funds closed. Total equity raised dropped from $127 billion in 2017 to $104 billion last year, and total funds closed plummeted from 258 to 147, according to PERE data. Last year’s fundraising volume was also the lowest in seven years, dipping below the $116 billion in 2012. Notably, more than triple the number of funds – 338 – were raised in 2012 compared with 2018, demonstrating the dramatic consolidation of capital among managers in only a handful of years.
