PERE Global Awards: Time to dust down the ballot box

Which individuals and organizations made the biggest marks in private real estate in 2018?

It is November once again and for team PERE that means one thing: Global Awards.

Starting now, your loyal editorial team will be combing the market for the most worthy nominations to fill out the categories included in the 13th annual iteration of the sector’s most illustrious awards. The PERE Global Awards recognize the achievements of the people and organizations that helped write the industry’s story in 2018.

As is often our way, we are going bigger and wider this year, introducing another six categories. In acknowledgement of institutional capital’s increasing preference for sector specialism, included for the first time are: Office Investor of the Year; Retail Investor of the Year; Logistics Investor of the Year; Residential Investor of the Year; Hotels and Leisure Investor of the Year; and Alternatives Investor of the Year.

Which investors will capture the votes for their endeavors? Asia’s CIC and GIC walked away with honors last year. And on the management side, what will the Blackstone haul look like this time? Last year, the New York giant collected eight awards. Starwood, another frequent winner, scored four. Other notable winners included newbie manager Henderson Park with two awards in Europe and longer established Gaw Capital Partners with two in Asia. On the advisory side, Clifford Chance dominated with four wins. Click here to see last year’s winners list in full.

What to know

Voting starts in early December and PERE will be back in touch to alert you to where to register your nods. The winners will be announced next March.

In the meantime, as has become customary, we invite you to submit nomination suggestions via a dedicated form. Suggestions will be accepted until the close of business Eastern Time on Wednesday, November 21, after which nominations will be determined.

The process through which our winners earn their places is rigorous and fair. As with every year, nominees are selected via a lengthy process that involves poring over the forms alongside research collected on the most active capital providers, managers and advisors. Edit team members from PERE and colleagues from parent company PEI also consult industry leaders to construct an impartial shortlist.

Please note that submissions are not prerequisites or guarantees for inclusion in the nominations process. Moreover, PERE’s editorial team will include them in the mix alongside our own considerations before determining four nominations per category. There will also be a fifth, blank category available for firms and individuals not nominated.

And, we will, once more, be considering who will follow Starwood Capital’s Barry Sternlicht and APG Asset Management’s Patrick Kanters as PERE’s next Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

So, without further ado, we officially declare the 2018 PERE Global Awards process underway. Please click on our dedicated form to submit your nominations proposals.
